SPRAVATO® Treatment at Sound Choice Mental Health

At Sound Choice Mental Health, we understand the courage it takes to seek help for depression, and we're dedicated to offering advanced, effective treatments on your journey toward mental wellness. For many who've struggled with persistent depression, SPRAVATO® (esketamine) CIII nasal spray has emerged as an innovative and hopeful option, already making a difference for over 100,000 individuals in the U.S.

Is SPRAVATO® Right for You?

We know how challenging it can be when depression doesn't respond to traditional treatments. SPRAVATO® is a prescription medicine specifically approved for adults living with treatment-resistant depression (TRD). This means if you've been grappling with clinical depression and haven't found sufficient relief from two or more oral antidepressants, SPRAVATO® might be a path forward.

Additionally, when used alongside an oral antidepressant, SPRAVATO® is approved to help adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who are experiencing suicidal thoughts or actions. Our compassionate team will carefully assess your unique situation to determine if SPRAVATO® aligns with your personalized treatment plan.

Proven Effectiveness, Renewed Hope

Clinical studies have shown 's ability to reduce depression symptoms, often with remarkable speed. In short-term studies, patients receiving SPRAVATO® combined with an oral antidepressant experienced a rapid and significant reduction in symptoms compared to those on a placebo. Many saw a notable improvement within just 24 hours, with continued progress over about four weeks.

For those with treatment-resistant depression, a long-term study indicated that continuing SPRAVATO® treatment significantly lowered the chance of depressive symptoms returning. While SPRAVATO® offers profound benefits, it's important to know it's not for pain relief, and its safety and effectiveness for preventing suicide or reducing suicidal thoughts aren't yet known.

Your Safety is Our Priority

Your well-being is at the heart of everything we do at Sound Choice Mental Health. SPRAVATO® can cause serious side effects like sedation, a feeling of disconnection (dissociation), and breathing issues. Because of this, we'll carefully monitor you for at least two hours after each dose to ensure your safety and comfort.

Due to a potential risk of abuse and misuse, SPRAVATO® is only available through a restricted program called the SPRAVATO® Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS) Program. This means it can only be administered in certified healthcare settings like ours, ensuring you receive care in a secure and professional environment.

It's also important to be aware that antidepressant medicines, including SPRAVATO®, may increase suicidal thoughts and actions in some individuals 24 years of age and younger, especially during the initial months of treatment or when doses change. SPRAVATO® is not for use in children. We will work closely with you and your loved ones to monitor for any changes in mood, behavior, thoughts, or feelings, ensuring you feel supported every step of the way.

Before starting SPRAVATO®, please share all your medical conditions with your healthcare provider, especially any heart, brain, or liver problems, a history of psychosis, or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. It's also crucial to discuss all medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements you are taking to prevent potential interactions. After receiving your dose, you'll need a trusted caregiver or family member to drive you home, and you should avoid driving or operating machinery until the next day after a restful night's sleep.

We encourage you to openly discuss any questions or concerns with your healthcare provider. For comprehensive details, please refer to the full Prescribing Information and Medication Guide for SPRAVATO®.

Your SPRAVATO® Treatment Journey:
What to Expect

At Sound Choice Mental Health, we're here to guide you through every step of your SPRAVATO® treatment journey with the care and support you deserve. Understanding the process can help you feel more comfortable and prepared.

What to Expect During Your SPRAVATO® Treatment

SPRAVATO® is administered right here in our certified treatment center as a nasal spray, always under the direct supervision of your healthcare provider. We'll show you exactly how to use the SPRAVATO® nasal spray device, making sure you feel confident and comfortable during the self-administration.

Your treatment schedule will be carefully tailored to your individual needs by your healthcare provider. Typically, for the first month, you'll take SPRAVATO® twice a week. In the second month, the frequency usually reduces to once a week. After the second month, your provider will assess your progress and determine the ongoing frequency of your treatments.

Preparing for Your SPRAVATO® Session

To ensure the best possible experience and help minimize potential side effects like nausea, we recommend that you don't eat for at least two hours before your SPRAVATO® session. Also, please refrain from drinking liquids for at least 30 minutes beforehand. If you use nasal corticosteroid or nasal decongestant medicines, it's important to take these at least one hour before your scheduled SPRAVATO® dose.

After Your SPRAVATO® Treatment

Your safety is paramount to us. After each SPRAVATO® administration, our compassionate team will monitor you closely for at least two hours for any serious side effects, such as sedation, a feeling of disconnection (dissociation), or temporary changes in breathing. We'll make sure you're feeling well and ready to leave our care before you depart.

It's important to know that SPRAVATO® can cause a temporary increase in your blood pressure for about four hours after administration, which our team will diligently monitor. After your session, you'll need a trusted caregiver or family member to drive you home. For your safety, you should not drive, operate machinery, or engage in any activities that require complete alertness until the next day, following a full night's restful sleep.

We're here to support you throughout your treatment, addressing any questions or concerns you may have about the process.

Important Conversations to Have with Your Doctor

Before you begin SPRAVATO®, it's vital to have a comprehensive discussion with your healthcare provider. We'll want to hear about your full medical and depression treatment history, including any past experiences with drug or alcohol abuse. Please share a complete list of all medicines you're currently taking—this includes prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, and herbal supplements, as certain combinations can interact with SPRAVATO®.

Be sure to also inform us about any existing heart, brain, or liver conditions, a history of psychosis, or if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. If you have high blood pressure, we'll specifically discuss how SPRAVATO® might fit into your overall health plan.
